hectic

well,I'm back from all the school stuff. I've been terribly busy with school stuff aka fundraising and HH meetings.

actually, right now, I feel rather disappointed with myself. my maths sucks. my baking/cooking skills aren't exactly improving fast enough.

I'm thinking of pursuing a different type of degree now but obviously maths would then be important. sigh. I think maybe I shall try doing a Bachelor of Business degree(hotel/restaurant management) I'm very very unsure of my future. the problem is money. where am I going to get all the funding? I really don't know..

it's going to be chinese new year really soon. it's the eve tomorrow! how exciting! lots of good food=) and hong bao money=)

I kinda like the last few days. although lessons are terribly boring and yucky,I really enjoy times with the class people=) it makes school bearable.

sigh...
pam is back=)

oh I have no new clothes for chinese new year.

when no one does the work, someone concerned will do it for them. they have no choice.

pineapple tarts

I miss pam.

it's a nice day.
gugu's stuff came yesterday! I was so happy! thanks for the moulds! oh here's the pic of timothy with the cap. he's really cute!

I made pineapple tarts today! all from scratch..well kind of..(the pineapple was from a can) it's fun!

I went for baking class yesterday. it's at Shermay's Cooking School at Chip Bee Gardens(Holland Village) I went directly from school.
HL! thanks for lending me your umbrella I'll return it ASAP!
I don't exactly know whether I like people teaching me culinary arts 'cos I find myself bored or daydreaming during the demo. actually, pineapple tarts are extremely easy to make. it's like making the dough for apple pies or stuff like that. only the process(for making the pineapple jam) is tedious. that's all. I think I wasted mama's money.
but I must say the guest chef ChristopherTan was very good. he gave rather good pointers throughout the entire thing.
oh the class was FULL of tai tais aka rich housewives. I was like the youngest. it's quite stressful to be surrounded by such people.
I shall think twice about joining such lessons.
I think I learn better on my own but I do want someone to guide me.

oh there's filming for our class advert for fundraising tomorrow. I'm praying that they won't turn me into something laughable. gosh. horrors!

I maintain my stand on school. I still don't like school.

pineapple tarts!
the ones I made today. the ones I made during baking class.

buffet!

we went out for lunch since papa and mama had some vouchers from papa's raffles hotel card.
we went to Swissotel Merchant Court Hotel's Allenborough Market Cafe.
well food there was pretty okay but not good enough. nothing really was worth eating a second time..I ate almost everything=p
(ok please bear with me 'cos I'm gonna talk abt the food and stuff)

Plate 1- the appetisers- Bottom left going in clockwise direction
Salmon sashimi, terrines(chicken and fish), seafood salad and stuffed clam in the middle.

I was extremely erm happy to eat my 1st plate 'cos I absolutely love buffets! plate 1 was quite nice. the salmon was good. the stuffed clam was really really nice. it had this tom yum taste. I think it's the nicest appetiser I ate. the seafood salad was pretty okay. the dressing was so nice! too bad the seafood wasn't very fresh. the terrines were quite bad but edible. the fish one was too fishy and the chicken one was too dry.

Plate 2- the salads- Bottom left going in clockwise direction

broccoli salad in mint dressing, beef sald, watercress salad, peking duck salad, tomatoes in garlic marinade and chickpea salad.

the salad plate was rather disappointing. I only liked half of all the salads. beef salad was really really weird tasting. the broccoli sald had this ultimately yucky mint dressing which simply didn't taste nice. I didn't like the watercress sald probably because I'm not used to the taste. tomatoes in garlic were really nice. the chickpea sald was not bad also. the peking duck sald was kinda overdressed and the meat was too tough but I like it.

plate 3- the main courses-Bottom left going in clockwise direction

prawn fritter, sze chuan beef, fried mee tai bak, ayam buah keluak, stir-fried french beans, assam fish, beef rendang, sweet-sour chicken and sambal prawns in the middle.

the main course plate was so-so. most weren't up-to-standard.french beans were soggy.most of the meat dishes didn't taste very nice. only the szechuan beef and ayam buah keluak was good(beef was kinda salty though!)

plate 4- soup and finger food-Bottom left going in clockwise direction

bread, bakwa, spring roll, cream of vegetables, and samosa.

well this time, stuff was good. the soup was definitely made from scratch.finger food wasn't that bad either. the samosa was very nice. the filling was nice and spicy.

plate 5- ipoh horfun(bowl actually)

this was very nice! the soup was kinda salty though. the noodles were yummy. they put crayfish and chicken as topping. absolutely yummy!

plate 6- the desserts-Bottom left going in clockwise direction

nut torte, brownie, orange mousse cake and chocolate tartlet.

I definitely like this dessert platter. the orange mousse cake was very good.the mousse was very very light and orangey. AND the mousse didn't stick to my teeth! the brownie was dense and very chocolatey and I must admit better than mine('cos they melt chocolate and put it in whereas I don't) the tartlet and nut tote was forgetable in comparison to the rest.

plate 7- the desserts continued-Bottom left going in clockwise direction

some weird creme thing, honeydew jelly, carrot cake, marble cheescake, strawberry mousse cake, bread pudding and cempedak creme brulee.

I really really like this platter. it's the nicest. Strawberry mousse cake tops the list! it's really tangy and yummy. cempadak creme brulee was good too. the custard was very smooth and the caramel top was done just right! the cheescake was really good too. honeydew jelly was really refreshing. the rest was not up to standard. the carrot cake wasn't good enough(Toast's carrot cake is much better) the bread pudding was very normal. the weird creme thing tasted like leftover cream from frosting cakes.

plate 8 and 9- the last of the desserts- durian pengant and chocolate ice cream

I don't see what's so great about the durian thing. it was too thin for my liking. I expected a thicker and more mousse-like texture, it was kind of runny. But it tastes not bad. the ice cream tasted like KFC's soft serve only with a darker colour.

In conclusion, the buffet wasn't very good although there are a couple of great dishes. maybe I'm too critical or it's just my tastebuds..

I'm gonna be a hotel chef one day. there are virtually no female chefs! I spotted none there.

after eating so much, I had an full-on "sleepy after meal" syndrome. I felt so sleepy I almost wanted to fall asleep in the restaurent.

oh shucks, there's school tomorrow. I haven't completed my homework. I need to do maths tutorials and Gp compre. argh!

I'm starting to hate school.

I like jap music. mel just got a namie amuro dvd and an ancient Smap CD. Namie Amuro's really hot and tall. so not like Ayumi Hamasaki. I like her. the smap Cd is kinda cute.

was I wrong?

well,it's only day 1 that P is gone. AND I was almost late for school.
I woke up at 650 which is way past when I should be up. I rushed off to take a cab. After waving for non-existent cabs(at least 5-10 mins.mind you.),I got on a cab. the cab driver was constantly 10km over the limit and he did an illegal turn. I'm not saying it's bad but I don't know.

oh that claire thing up there.right side! I sewed it onto my apron which is a gift from claudia which is almost I think 2 years old and new. I don't have a habit of wearing aprons. but I do need it for thursday's class.

that weird stuff in the container is ginger apple-oat cookies. I was trying to make a lowfat thing but it didn't turn out very well. it's cakey and just not good enough.
oh well..
I tried it out on sunday 'cos I was hopelessly bored and sick of staring at notes.

anyway school was quite nice.
I do like today's chapel. it's quite fun and interesting in a way.
I haven't done my HW!! oh gosh. I'll cram it in tomorrow I guess.

I went to the JE library and the baking shop. I went to check out prices at the shop. I bought cornflakes! stuff there is really cheap. but cheap most of the time equals low quality. their stuff is so-so. I want to go to the baking shop around newton!

I got a few interesting recipe books. I haven't really seen them but I know I'll like them.

on the way home(the pathway leading to the mrt and bus interchange), I saw this oldish-middle aged woman and a kid around 3 years old begging. Initially, I simply walked pass them. but I couldn't resist it. I went back to talk to the woman. well, according to her, she has no job. her kid doesn't have milk powder. I gave her 5 bucks.
I seriously don't know whether she cheated me of my money or not. I hope not.
the kid is really cute.if it's some scam,I don't really care. just let them take my money. they look like they need it. so there..

I baked cornflake cookies! vanessa and nini helped(roll the cookies only)! it's sorethroat-inducing but absolutely yummy!
I realised that the right recipe would make one a perfect baker/chef 60-80% of the time. I'm seriously falling back if I were to be a chef/pastry chef in the future.
it's hari raya haji tomorrow. so it's a public holiday!!!
cornflake cookies(the lighting is kinda screwy)

trying

hello!

somehow after reading emails and blogs, I feel strangely encouraged. once again,I'm motivated to (I don't know) do stuff. it's kind of a mixed feeling.

school has been weird. it's fun in a way. and I slack during maths tutorials all the time 'cos I have no idea what's going on and I don't like doing maths in school(not that I like doing maths elsewhere but I just don't like maths)

I'm really broke this time. I didn't even get timothy a birthday present! argh! I shall make it up sometime.

I haven't started studying yet. I shall starting tomorrow. I need to pull my grades way up. we shall not slack okay? we shall study really really hard for the A's.

thursday's baking class is on. I'm going. the problem is that it clashes with school. I'll go for school as normal and go through the day including MASS PE( which I survived. actually it's not that bad as I thought it too be. only that my whole body ached like mad the next day.) I'll miss maths and chem tutorial. I have no idea how I'm going to be excused from class.

I'm thinking about selling chinese new year cookies. I've got some ideas. I keep thinking about it during mass, rather unholy and bad of me. I couldn't concentrate at all.
the class's funorama food stall thing is kind of tricky. I'm quite nervous about the amount of stuff we have to bake and the quality of it all. and not to include our haunted house bit. oh my...

pam's leaving for australia tomorrow. I'll miss her..
hey pam..take care okay! msg me when u come back! love ya lots! =)

didi turned 5 on 5 Jan(thur) we had a really really nice dinner.we had roast beef and roasted veg. I baked a chocolate cake for him too! it's frosted. I'm in love with frostings. they are really yummy! didi refuses to eat my chocolate cake! not because it's yucky but because I think he wants the cake for show. hmph. so bad!

oh karmen, the mini choclate pavlova thing is really really nice. I ate up all the leftovers in GP class=P (I should have tried it out during the hols. it was on my to-bake list. but I totally forgot about my list then!)
okay. I shall go wandering off now. I have some CIP stuff to think about.

new year's day lasagne

roast beef= ultra yummy

surprise cupcakes that I baked for pam

timothy's birthday cake

vanessa, timothy, mel and nini!

back to school

sadly, there won't be photos during weekday blogs 'cos I'll look totally weird if I start snapping photos during school.

school has started. it feels really weird to be J1 I mean J2..I guess I'm kind of stuck in 2005.

school has been slack. it feels weird(ok I'm saying the same thing again) I can't help but think about last year's first stay of school..

but I guess stuff will work out. I need to work on my portfolio.
I need to do CIP with oldies. actually, more diversity in my community involvement.

I have to get at least ABCC for my terms. I should start work. I haven't sorted out stuff yet. gosh, there's so much unfinished work that I don't know where to start.

I'm kind of feeling lost. but for now,I'm happy and contented.
